BWCC – SPIN LEADER GUIDELINES
Thank you! As a Bray Wheeler Spin Leader you are facilitating one of the weekly leisure spins.
Below are some recommendations that will help you to plan and lead a spin.
BEFORE THE SPIN:
Check weather forecasts before you plan your route – especially if it is particularly cold / windy – stay in low / protected areas.
Post a route of the Spin to the relevant WhatsApp Group at least 48 hours before the spin.
ON THE DAY OF THE SPIN
Introduce yourself and if there are any new / youth riders.
If there are new riders check their tyre pressure / water / food.
Youth riders will have a nominated chaperone – check who this is.
Explain how you want hazards to be called etc…
Outline the route and the average pace of the group.
Record a list of names of riders and emergency contact details.
Keep this list for at least two weeks in case it is needed.
Manage the spin by outlining regrouping points and ensure some riders are not cycling too fast / too slow.
You can ask people to ease up if they are going too fast. If riders are too slow you can ask them to drop back to a slower group.
Keep an eye on bunch riding – call out any dangerous actions.
AFTER THE SPIN
If there are any injuries / incidents let Mark Murphy know (086 810 4648)
And follow-up with a call a day or two later to check on any riders that were involved in any accidents.
