The season is long finished. For anyone that hasn't yet started getting miles in ahead of the 2017 season, you're already behind some people. Like it, agree with it, or not- the first race of the year is about 15 weeks away. Knock out a week or two around Christmas/New Years, and another here or there due to bad weather and you could be down to 10-12 weeks of effective training. Waiting until January and expect results after 5/6 weeks of some training on a Tuesday evening? Forget about it.
Starting 5 Nov the weekly Saturday 0930 spins will commence from the usual spot at Kilmac and will be led by Ian Murphy and Geoff Robinson. The aim for the next few weeks is a simple 3h or so steady pace spin. We'll build on this as the weeks progress and include some harder efforts come Jan/early Feb.
For anyone with aspirations of open racing in 2017 this is the spin you need to be on, and this is the time of year to join it. There's no point waiting until January when we're doing 4h and everyone else has a solid 6 to 8 weeks endurance mileage in their legs. You're just making it more difficult for yourself! The IVCA season doesn't start until considerably later and some of those regulars are meeting at 0930 on Sunday mornings.
Routes: in general pretty flat. There's no point climbing hills getting a sweat on only to chill descending.
Pace: in general ... there's no general. Depends on weather, number of people, route.
For any racers on the 10am spins, this is the spin for you to be on. See you all there on Saturday morning!
