John Monaghan takes Sprint Victory at Track Meeting
John Monaghan, who recently joined Bray, took a great victory in a thrilling finish in the final of the 1 lap sprint at the Track Meeting on Sundrive Road on Wednesday 27th July. John reached the final of this high intensity event after winning his heat and semi final, including a great show of strength on the final straight to stay ahead of a fast closing Terry Ferris, a renowned fastman with many victories in sprint finishes. John however saved his best til last when, in the final, he led out the sprint from 200 metres out only to find himself being overtaken on the final bend by a rampaging Malcolm Goggins who was in terrific form. John somehow found the strength to produce a second surge in the final metres and retake the lead which he held til the line. This victory is a great sign of form coming up yo the National Track Championships in mid August which John is aiming to be at his peak for.
