Bray Wheelers welcome new members

We always welcome new members to the club. Currently the club has about 125 members. The club is primarily a cycle road racing club, but members are also involved with leisure cycling, touring, track racing and mountain biking.

Club Races
Bray Wheelers stage club races for members every Thursday evening, from May to August, meeting up at the Calary Car Park at 7.00pm.

Women's Cycling

Bray Wheelers currently has a large number of female cyclists. We now have a women's league as part of the Spring and Summer league club races. For more information contact Gillian Martin on 086 362 8280 or Alex Dobbs 085 739 9603.


Underage and Entry Level Spins
For the younger riders we run a spin on Sunday afternoons in the winter, and Monday evenings in the Summer months. This would also suit newcomers to the sport.


Joe Loughman Randonnée
The club also hosts a tour of Wicklow in September, taking in the famous climb at Glenmalure. Departing from Presentation College, Putland road, Bray at 9.30am to follow the usual 120 km route through Wicklow. Refreshments will be served mid-way at Aughrim and at the finish.

Training Spin
Training spins around Wicklow depart from Kilmacanogue, at the new fly-over on the N11, every Saturday and Sunday at 10am sharp. Riders must wear a hard shell helmet at all times.

History

Established in 1949, the club is one of the oldest and most respected cycle racing clubs in Ireland. Early members include; the late Shay Elliot, the first Irishman ever to hold the yellow jersey in the Tour de France.

Clubhouse
Bray Wheelers are the only cycling club in Ireland to have a clubhouse. We moved from our existing clubhouse on Dargle Road, to our new clubhouse in May 2006 , situated on Schools Road, Boghall, Bray County Wicklow. The new clubhouse is a new and modern building with changing rooms, showers and meeting room.

Bray Wheelers Youth Coaches
Bray Wheelers are proud to have foundation and level one cycling coaches willing to give instruction to young riders. An initiative is being started where there will be a youth spin as part of the adult spin, this spin will depart from Kilmacanogue on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am, but will turn around at Ashford, and come back from there. Coaches and helpers will be present based on a rota system.

Under 14 years free

In addition, any member who wishes to take part in either open or club races is required to have either a racing or non-racing license from Cycling Ireland or the Irish Veterans Cycling Association. You can apply using the application forms available for download here.
