Bray Wheelers News
by Beryl Gilmore, Club PRO
Last Tuesday night saw the first staging of the Mondello Bikeworx series of races in Mondello Park and Craig Gilmore, Sam Gilmore and Harry Brooks both juniors rode the race. This was handicapped and some of the groups came together early on forcing the pace up – with Sam lasting the rapid pace the longest.
This weekend saw the staging of the Gorey 3 day stage race with one sole Bray entrant flying the flag for Bray Wheelers. Ed O’Brien rode consistently well over the 4 stages to finish in a very creditable 18th position overall. The finish of the race was in Blessington on Easter Monday and Ed was there contesting the sprint finish with a large bunch gallop.
This is a very good result from a field of 200. So congratulations to Ed of his great result.
Sam Gilmore was the only Bray entrant in the Ras an Laois in Rathdowney, Co Laois on Sunday, riding well and finishing comfortably with the main bunch.
The previously notified Youth spins of Sunday 20th April, Sunday 4th May and Sunday 18th May spins will not now go ahead, due to clashes with other events and the youth spins now switch to Monday nights from Monday the 28th with a road spin at Shanganagh at 7.30 pm. New schedule is available here.
Bray Wheelers will host the Shay Elliott memorial race and the A3 event the SHA3 this Saturday April 26th. If any member or previous member is free to help out with the marshalling of the event can they please contact one of the committee as all help is gratefully appreciated.
Next Thursday night sees the welcome return of the club league with the first race an interclub 11km time trial from Kilmac signing on from 7pm.
