
This week saw the Youth Road National Championships for some club members, the junior track Championships while others took part in the various sportives around the country, including the famous Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford, the kids interclub league continued with mountain biking in Shanganagh Park.
At the interclub league in Shanganagh Park the results were as follows – In the time trial Brendan Conroy was fastest with Daniel Donoughue second and Daniel Fleming third. In Race 1: First place went to Faith Robinson with in 2nd place Alex Mulcahy and in 3rd Noah Harris. In Race 2: 1st was Lauren Haverty from in 2nd Uisneach Sheridan and in 3rd Andrew Ryan. In Race 3: 1st was Ciaran Keogh with in2nd Brenda Conroy and in 3rd Orla Conroy. The interclub league continued on Sunday with a track skills day at Sundrive Velodrome. Prize giving will take place on Monday evening the 26th.
Bray did extremely well in the Youth and Junior Championships over the weekend with Caoimhe Ivory taking gold in the Junior Track Pursuit and setting a new women’s junior outdoor record in the process. As Caoimhe knocked over 4 seconds off the previous record this time is likely to stand for some time to come. Congratulations to Caoimhe who has put in a huge amount of work over the past few weeks – so this is a very well deserved medal.
At the Youth Nationals in Enniscorthy Will Ryan took gold in the criterium Championships with his brother Archie getting up for the bronze medal. Will also took silver in the road race and bronze in the under 12 time trial.
Ben Docherty took the silver medal in the mornings time trial and unfortunately broke his wrist after crashing in the afternoons road race. We wish Ben a speedy recovery. Congratulations to all our medal winners and to everyone who took part.
Just to remind members that there will be a another Bring Buy, Sell, Swap Give Away Night for all club members. This is open to Sorrento members also. If you have cycling paraphenalia, clothes, parts, spares that you want to get rid of or you just fancy coming along to have a nose and pick up a bargain please do so. The date is Wednesday the 11th of September in the Bray Wheelers Club House at 7:30.
The vets race on Sunday was the Sonny Cullen memorial GP where Damian Doyle placed in 5th place in a bunch finish.
