With the national road racing championships approaching Bray's cyclists are
working hard to find form.
Both of Last weeks events have been criteriums, one hour sprint events on
a one mile lap.
The results came mostly from up and coming junior riders. In the phoenix park
evening race Urban Monks rode a steady race conserving his energy for the
finishing straight and took a well deserved first place as a junior while
the senior riders where having difficulty jostling for positions Fergal Kelly
took eight place.
Ger Ivory, Derek Cunningham and Frank O'Leary diversify and participated in
the National Track Championships however intermitent showers made the tracks
surface unpredicatable and all three riders missed out on placings. Gary Rigley
another promising young rider one the club summer league on general classification
having consistent results in each event.
In the Kildare town Criterium the Junior and Senior riders were set off together.
The pace didn't ease up for the whole race causing creating alot of DNF's
due to five sprint primes on offer,a sprint primes cash bonus been offered
for the first over the line at a particular point during the race. Fergal
Kelly out sprinted the Senior A riders twice earning him two primes then returned
to the peleton to give Urban Monks a lead into the finishing lap. Urban went
on to take first junior putting him on the podium twice in one week. Urbans
excellent results should give him plenty of confidence for The Nationals in
Sligo next weekend, Bray will have a full team in attendence.
