For Irish Olympic rider Jenny McCauley, her win was somewhat unplanned, though very welcome: “I was over in Germany talking to my new team, Biking Cyprus, when I decided to take in the NPS on the way home. I had no helmet and had to pop out last night to buy one – I got a great one for £20! I had no mud tyres either, but it didn’t seem to be a problem.” “I got a good start and picked a line which took me round the mud at the bottom of the first climb, which put me in the lead. I had a brief problem at the bottom of the pipeline descent which dropped me back to about 8th, but after that I got to the front again by the end of the second lap and rode clear on the last lap.I’m really pleased and surprised at the result, especially considering I only decided to ride last night!
